Time for a book review!

This time I picked up the book:  Dear Deb by Margaret Terry.

Deb goes to Margaret’s church and has announced to her group that she has cancer.  She wants and believes in a miracle.  Margaret befriends her and starts writing letters to her to encourage her daily and give her something to look forward to each day as she fights the fight that is taking her life.

This was a different book than what I originally thought it would be.  When I first read the review for it I thought it would be a book where Deb, the woman with cancer, is writing back and forth to Margaret.  However this is not the case.  This is a bunch of letters that Margaret wrote to Deb about Margaret’s own life and the many things she has overcome.

Throughout these letters Margaret is encouraging Deb and also encouraging the reader.  She tells of what it’s like to be a mother, to go through divorce and how she eventually came back to God.

This was an easy read, however I really enjoyed it. I felt like I was sitting down with Margaret, enjoying a cup of coffee while she told me about her life.   I also enjoyed how, without even knowing it, the words that God had given to Margaret encouraged me…even though the letters were not written for me.  They challenged me to examine my life, to think about things and to change some things around.

If you need a light read and want to be encouraged along the way….pick up this book.  Margaret Terry is an amazing author and I can’t wait for her next book!

I give this book 4 out of 5 lollipops!

When I saw a picture on Pinterest for Mini Raspberry Cheesecakes I JUST knew that I had to try them.  I love cheesecake and the hubs loves Raspberries…so why not combine them.

I grabbed the ingredients on grocery day and on Sunday afternoon,  while the hubs took Little E swimming at the Y, I donned my imaginary apron and started baking.

You can find the recipe here:

http://www.annies-eats.com/2010/08/06/raspberry-swirl-cheesecake-cupcakes/

Here is a picture of  my finished product.

They turned out soooo yummy!!!

Only three things to note about this recipe:

1)  It calls for 2 pounds (yes 2 pounds) of cream cheese.  That’s four packages.  That’s ALOT.  I know it’s cheesecake but that’s expensive.  Therefore making this a once a year for this family.

2)  Do not attempt to use a flour sifter for taking the seeds out of raspberries after you process them.  (This was just me trying to be inventive…the recipe does not call for it)

3)  It’s best to have two muffin pans so that you aren’t waiting for the first batch to come out of the oven.

Other than that A+ to this recipe.  Everybody loved it but Little E….just not healthy enough for him I guess.  🙂

Like a Kid in a Movie Store.

Our usual Friday night plans got cancelled this past  Friday and I talked to hubby about the possibility of having a movie night with Little E.  This is something we have never done….just because we are usually doing other things.  I said…let’s go out and rent a movie.  Something we also haven’t done in a very long time.  I’m not a movie watcher…I’d rather read books.  Yes…such a geek but I’m ok with that.

Hubby thought it was a great idea.  So on Friday I was done babysitting at 3:00 and we headed to the movie rental store.  I don’t think Little E has ever been in a movie rental store in his life.

He was so overwhelmed by all the movies.  The first rack he went to had two of his favourites:  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Phineas and Ferb (not together of course…although that could be awesome.)

He couldn’t pick.  We went to a few other racks before we settled on our movie choice of “The Lorax”.

However his excitement didn’t stop there as he was running around the store trying to make sure he had made the best selection possible he almost ran right smack into this:

He was so excited that there was a huge gumball machine in the rental store that I think he was more excited about this than the movie. (for a few minutes anyway)

When we got home we invited our 91 year old neighbour to come over and watch it with us.  I think she liked it too.  We had a grand old family  night together.  🙂

Half way through the movie Little E pipes up and says “this is the best family  night ever. Thanks mom and dad.  I get to stay up late, watch a movie and eat chips.”  🙂

And just for the record…for all those who know my child.  He sat through the whole movie and barely moved at all!!!

Tonight just made my whole week better and I see a new Friday night tradition in our household.  I love love love it.

SOOOOOO Blessed.

Little E and I had a wonderful day last Monday.  We spent all day together because the hubs was trying to finish a course that he is working on.  We started off with some light shopping, visited a neighbour and then went for a walk.  We finished the afternoon off by doing some yard work in preparation for winter.

Yes…I said the W word.  People, get used to it…it’s coming whether we like it or not.

We were raking up the leaves in the backyard and he was doing a WONDERFUL job helping me.  He’s such a good helper…and I didn’t get any pictures!  😦  Although, I did think about it…for the “Momma’s in the picture posts that I have been slacking on.

Anyway, Little E said that he wanted to climb in the green bin and jump on the leaves.

I replied by saying “You can’t do that…mommy would miss you if they took you away with the garbage!”

He looked at me with a serious face and said, “That’s ok..you can just lay another egg.”

Lol..I don’t know where he gets these things!

Friday is here!  That means a wonderful weekend with my family and my church family.  It also means a Fill in the Blank blog post.  I link up with The Little Things we Do.  Check out her blog.

1.  My best quality is   you never have to guess what I’m thinking.  I just tell you.  This could be good or bad.
2.  One of my less flattering qualities is I’m not good with change….(not the coin type)
3.  I’d rather be    reading .
4. Something I have been challenged with lately is  to spend my change (coins) more wisely.  A blog post will be coming on this soon.
5. I am looking forward to  our trip with Little E to Florida sometime in the near future.  We almost have all our money saved up!
6. A super random factoid about me is  I have to make sure the oven is turned off completely before I go to bed.  I check it about four or five times.
7.  I want to  spend more time focused on others (particularly Little E and my friends) and less on me.Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Laura
Blessing:  I’m off today at 3 instead of 5:30!!!!
