Archive for January, 2012

So Saturday night I was waiting for something on my computer to finish…ok i’m not going to lie.  I was waiting for my Atomic Wings on Cafe world to finish cooking so I could go to bed.  :)  I then decided that maybe a little bit of Pinterest would be a good thing.  Yes..I decided this at 11:15 PM when I still had to finish my lesson for kids church in the morning.

So…on to Pinterest I go. And I came upon this really cool idea called 40 bags in 40 days.  You can find the original post here: Little Lucy Lu . Basically she’s talking about going through various places in her house and cleaning them out.  A bag per day.  Check out her list it’s pretty cool.  Her first day is junk drawer in laundry room.  So she’ll go through that…clean out stuff she doesn’t need or no longer uses, put it in a bag to either throw away or give away.

Soooo starting on Monday I’m going to revisit this challenge and start it for myself.  I’ll show you my list before then and I’m going to stick through it and get some of this unwanted junk out of my house!!  I feel free just even thinking about it!

Who’s with me?????  Come on you know you wanna…just step out and do it…create a list and take a picture of each bag with the day written on it somewhere.  Just write on the comment for the day on my blog (no matter what the post) this: “I did it” and then send me your pictures each day to luvmyadopted1@gmail.com  At the end of the challenge I’ll post them!  I wanna see what we can get rid of.  If you miss a day don’t give up, just get right back on there and stuff those bags.  :)

I’ll be back before Monday with my list!

I know, I know it’s been a while.  I’m slacking and I have no excuse for it…ok well I have excuses..they just aren’t great ones :)

Here’s a laughable line from the other day.

Amazing A to Little E: “E what do you want to be when you grow up?  Teachers jobs are the best because when you have gym they don’t have to go and at recess they get to go home and relax!”

Hahah I thought that was super awesome and just had to share!  :)

Remember to check out the original blog for Fill in the Blank Fridays at The Little things we do

1.   My favorite place I’ve ever traveled to is   New York – more specifically Times Square.  It was so cool to see all the lights even at midnight and to go shopping then!

2.    Italy    is somewhere I’d love to go someday.

3.  I pass the time on a plane (or bus, or car ride or train) by   reading .

4.  My three must-haves when I travel are   my kindle, music and my pillow.
5.  My favorite travel companion is    my family  .
6.  The craziest thing that ever happened to me while traveling is    when we were in New York we were in the Bronx and we were walking under an overpass I thought I got shot.  Turns out it was just a pigeon that pooped on me.  I was pretty freaked out though and was crying.
7.  The most exotic food I’ve ever tried while traveling is  grits.  Haha yup…not much of a food taster :)

8.  If I could live anywhere else, I’d live   someplace warm :)

9.  I have been to    7  states in the U.S.

Hope you have had a great weekend!!!!

Blessing:  Watched my child worship in church today.  Was awesome!

One of my first blog posts on here was talking about how I had read The Happiness Project By Gretchin Rubin.  I talked about how my goal was to laugh more and to be happy more.  See the blog post here:  http://mylittleblessedlife.wordpress.com/?s=happiness+project

Haha funny I now realize that was just over a year ago.  Jan 20th of last year.

It’s not funny though that I have failed this goal miserably.  UGH!!

I don’t know why…but I think in general I’m not a happy person….well wait…maybe I am…but maybe I just have a hard time showing it.  Lots of times I let stress overcrowd  all other emotions until there just doesn’t seem to much room for any happy left in my day.

FYI, I hate being like this.  I find myself breaking my promises to Little E, snapping when I really shouldn’t and sometimes just talking in an angry way.  Yes,  I know we all have our days but mine seems to be more  than just one day a week….try like four or five.

So, like I said..I have failed miserably in the laugh more section.

I want to change that though!  I want to be more fun, be  more happy, be less in control and less stressed in my life.  Do I think I can do it?  Yes, I definitely do.

How?

Well, that’s a hard question to answer.  I think one of the first steps is to have regular, longer quiet time with God each day. Something to calm my heart and to prepare me for my day ahead or to calm me after my day.

Another thing is to not let things stress me as much.  I know that this won’t be easy AT ALL, but I can definitely work at it.  If you see me stressing…tell me to laugh instead.  I may look like I’m about to hit you…but don’t be scared I really won’t. (hopefully)

One more thing is to step back from those times when I’m not being happy and to look at them as an outsider and see how I may be hurting those around me.

The biggest thing though?  To remember my Little E when he says “Mommy, be happy!”

Yeah…that’s a big punch in the gut, but it’s true.   I don’t want my child remembering his mommy as not being fun or not being happy or just being angry all the time.  I don’t want him to remember me as somebody who was annoyed over ever single thing or just couldn’t relax enough to play with him.

So, that being said…THIS challenge for myself is my big challenge for the year.  My New Year’s resolution of sorts.  I want to be happy more.  I WILL be happy more.  I will enjoy the relationships around me more instead of trying to be in control of them.  I won’t stress the small stuff, and I’ll walk with hand in hand with my husband along the way.

My goal?  My goal is obviously to be happier…but another goal is to fall in love more with my family and to the best friend, relative, and person to those around me.

The other day Little E and I were playing.  I can’t remember exactly what we were doing but I must have been bugging him because he looked up at me and said:

“Mom is that really necessary”.

I kid you not…plain as day.

Just shows you how much your words impact your kids :)

Blessing:  I had a great relaxing day today and found a great deal on a new pair of jeans!

It’s that time again.  I get my weekly fill in the blanks from the blog: The Little Things we Do (check it out!)

1.   The last thing I ate was     Zesty Cheese Crunchers (chips) .

2.   The last song I listened to was   One Elephant went out to play (By Sharon Lois & Bram)    .

3.  Using the letters in my name I can spell    {Laura} Al, a, url, aura  (haha there isn’t a whole lot)

4.  If I had to dress in one color for the rest of my life I would pick   Red…it’s bright and it makes people happy.
5.  If you were to look in my bag right now you’d find    a Pampered Chef catalog, gum, my wallet, Little E’s Wallet, nail file, lip balm, hand sanitizer, keys, glasses cleaner, wetnaps.
6.  When I finish filling in the blanks I’m going to    go to bed!  .
7.  My all time favorite song to dance to is  Anything by  TobyMac or Undignified..(that’s a fun song to dance to)
Haha this one was just a bunch of random stuff…but still fun!

God knows just when to bless us!

I was going to post another topic for my blog post today but then thought….”Hey my blog is about how blessed I am…and I really should be telling people all about that”.  So…today I’m going to do just that.

Hubby does carpentry for a living besides being a pastor in the church plant here.  The winter is fairly slow for carpentry work.  Actually we thought it was going to be a lot better than this but that’s neither here nor there.  The bottom line is that he hasn’t been getting enough to meet our needs…and my babysitting has dropped by two kids before Christmas.  So needless to say our funds are kinda low.  Actually…really low.

Hubby thought he had some work lined up for this week but that didn’t work out.  So on Sunday we prayed and we prayed again.  We prayed that God would help us in this situation.  He’s done it before and we knew that He would do it again.  However, we are human and we still worried about things.

Sunday afternoon hubby took Little E swimming at the public pool because we had a free admission.  On his way there he received a phone call out of the blue from a guy wanting to know if Kevin could come work for him for a few days and he would get the same pay as his normal job.  All we had to do was say Yes and obviously Praise God for the answered prayer!

While answering yes we found out that the guy would also need hubby to work all next week for him which is AWESOME.

Now, mind you it’s not a full week’s work but you know…it was extra money that we really really needed.

God blessed us tremendously…because without this money we wouldn’t be able to put gas in our car, or pay our power bill.

We were talking again tonight about our financial needs and I mentioned to hubby that we only had an 1/8 of tank of oil.  I told him that we were going to need oil.  Will we worry about it?  Probably…not because we think that God won’t provide for us but because we are human.  Do I think God will take care of it?  I sure do!  He’s proven Himself (even though He doesn’t have to) over and over again!

How has God blessed you this past week or even month?  Tell me about it!  I want to hear your blessings!

It’s Friday!!  And while most of us are singing that oh so wonderful song by Rebecca Black in our heads (ah come on…you know you are :) ) I am bringing another “Fill in the Blank Friday” to you.  This was originally posted by Lauren at The Little Things We do .

Here we go…and Happy Friday!

Free time!

1.   One of my favorite things to do when I have free time is    probably surf the net or read.

2.   When I have free time I tend to    be more lazy than motivated. I should be cleaning my house but most times I’m just sitting back relaxing and enjoying the silence .  My free time only comes with silence.  If there isn’t silence then it’s not genuine free time. :)

3.  If I had an entire day completely to myself I would    go back to bed for a few  hours.  Get up and have a great cup of coffee.  Play around on facebook, pinterest and look for a few coupons.  I would then have a wonderful lunch with no children staring at me.  I would lay back in bed and read a book…maybe have a nap…then get back up and probably do something productive so I didn’t feel like it was a complete waste of my time.  My hubby always has the car so I just used my free time around my house instead of out in the world with the living and active :)

4.  I would prefer to spend my free time (alone or with others…)   ALONE…unless I’m shopping…then a great girl friend!
5.  Most of my free time happens    when Little E is in bed.
6.  The best thing about free time is    it’s quiet for the most part.  :)
7.  The next time I have free time I should probably   clean out my clothes and get rid of the ones I don’t want  but instead, I’ll probably     be learning the ins and outs of Pampered Chef as I’m a consultant now.
How about you?  Feel free to comment with your answers or copy in your own blog!
